About the Event

About

Kudwa with the collaboration of Syrian Volunteers in the Netherland, and within the framework of our advocacy work, have organized a double workshop that introduces the concepts of migrant-led advocacy, self organization and storytelling for change.

 Why?

It is no surprise that most of us as migrants and refugees are struggling with regulations and policies that are discriminatory and unfair, which hinder our sense of belonging.

Especially in Spain, migration narratives have been predominantly harmful and negative towards the general reception of migrants and refugees.

We have seen some reforms to the policies recently, such as the reforms concerning unaccompanied minors and young ex-guardians to favor their inclusion, as well the Arraigo Laboral for labor market integration.

Not to mention the efforts of local CSOs and NGOs such as as RegularizacionYA! which made a significant impact on the current political and social landscape towards migration.

Not only survive, we want to thrive

No sólo sobrevivir, queremos prosperar

النجاة لا تكفي، نستحق النجاح

 What?

In this workshop, we aim to learn how we can work together to change our lives as migrants and refugees wanting to be part of our new communities.

Kudwa has brought in the support of Syrian Volunteers in the Netherlands to show us the tools and know-how that we can use to impact change around us. And how we can use our stories as a powerful tool to change our realities.

We will learn that with advocacy and the right tools, and if we raise our voices and work together to tell our stories, we can make change a reality.

The workshop is designed to gain a better understanding of policymaking practice and how to advocate for an effective policy-change using personal and shared stories

The workshop will be given in Arabic and English and we will have language support for Spanish.

 Aims

  • Gain a deeper understanding of policymaking practice
  • The role of advocacy, and the role of individuals affected by this policy
  • Develop a group advocacy plan for a chosen theme
  • Feel connected and empowered to influence policies that directly affect our lives.

Who?

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is for anyone who would like to learn storytelling techniques for social impact.

For anyone who feels they have a story to share and would like to use it to make a change.

 Who is giving the workshop?

Mohammed Badran is a Steering Committee member of the Global Summit of Refugees that took place in Geneva on the 25th and 26th June 2018. The Summit was a history-making event, bringing together 72 representatives from forcibly displaced populations from all over the globe for the first time to discuss, plan and organize their efforts on influencing global refugee policies.

In 2017, Badran, along with two other refugee leaders launched the G-100 initiative, a movement that is working to change the current narrative on refugees and refugee experiences across Europe. The G100 aims at creating an interactive space for dialogue between newcomers and locals Europeans in the host communities in order to foster dialogue, find solutions, and make refugees’ voice heard in decision-making processes.

Kudwa: is a migrant led organization based in Barcelona that works towards building bridges between migrants and locals, promoting active citizenship, initiative, and community, and address barriers to effective integration and inclusion.
