Muchas personas que buscan asilo cruzan el Mediterráneo cada día, debido a las políticas de Fortaleza Europea que la UE está aplicando.

La Unión Europea, a pesar de las muchas afirmaciones de que acoge a los inmigrantes, está adoptando políticas disuasorias para la migración y el asilo, especialmente de terceros países que se enfrentan a crisis cada día.

Incluso cuando las personas llegan a la UE, por lo general después de peligrosos viajes, se enfrentan a muchos obstáculos que no les permiten prosperar y alcanzar su pleno potencial. De este modo, se perpetúan las narrativas perjudiciales y se les mantiene en circunstancias precarias.

Con motivo del Día Internacional del Migrante y del Día Mundial de la Lengua Árabe, recordamos que muchos migrantes y refugiados luchan a diario por sobrevivir, sin posibilidad de prosperar.

¿Por qué se califica siempre de crisis?

¿Importa por qué la gente emigra o busca refugio?

¿Cómo podemos pasar de verlo como una crisis a verlo como un potencial?

¿Cómo podemos permitir que los migrantes y refugiados pasen de sobrevivir a prosperar en sus nuevas vidas?

Estas son algunas de las cuestiones sobre las que reflexionaremos en esta sesión, después de ver la proyección de la nueva película de Netflix: Los nadadores

Material and immaterial borders - Crossing to survive or to thrive?

Many people seeking asylum cross the Mediterranean every day. Through their journeys, and because of the Fortress Europe policies that the EU is enforcing.

European Union, despite many claims of welcoming migrants, is adopting deterrent policies for migration and asylum, particularly from third countries that are facing crises every day.

Even when people arrive in the EU, usually after dangerous journeys, they are faced with so many obstacles that do not allow them to thrive and reach their full potential. Thus perpetuating harmful narratives and keeping them in precarious circumstances.

For the occasion of International Migrant day and the world day for the Arabic Language, which are on Dec 18, we remember that many migrants and refugees struggle daily to survive, with no chance to thrive.

Why is it always labeled as a crisis?

Does it matter why people migrate or seek refuge?

How can we move from seeing it as a crisis to seeing it as potential?

How can we allow migrants and refugees to move from surviving to thriving in their new lives?
